Peaches Peaches are a member of the rose family, cousin to apricots, cherries, plums and almonds. They can be labeled as Freestone or Clingstone, which refers to the ease the flesh comes off the pit. Freestone are the most common commercially available varieties, but Clingstone are juicier and sweeter, more often used in canning. Our peach varieties harvesting in 2011 are: Red Globe: a beautiful, large, freestone, red-blushed peach. Wonderfully sweet, it is excellent fresh, canned or frozen. Elberta: is the best known variety peach. It is red-blushed with yellow melting flesh. It is sweet and best eatten fresh, canned or cooked in desserts. |
